Carnforth Station Heritage Centre are running a “Brief Encounter Special” which will pass by the platform at Tudor House twice on it’s way to and from York.

All being well, she should be steaming down the hill from Hellifield just before 11.00 a.m. We will have the coffee on the bacon sandwiches at the ready for anyone who wants to join us and wave her by.

On the return trip she is due to leave Skipton at 18.24, so should be pulling up the hill to Bell Busk around 18.35.

Do drop by and join us on the platform, you won’t get a better close up view of the train anywhere else!

"Moon" the keeper!

For the first time since we took over Tudor House B&B we are to take a break during “the season” when we leave for the USA on Thursday morning. It is not however on a whim, but to attend something that, for a while at least, we thought we may never get to see, Jack graduating with a degree in Business Management.

We are immensely proud of the way he has set about making something of his young life after the meeting that befalls the vast majority of 16 year olds who play for a professional football club when he got the information “Sorry, we won’t be offering you a contract”.

Of course it took him a month or two to come to terms with the fact that, for the time being at least, his dream of playing football for a living was broken, but his drive & determination to find an alternative solution and make it happen was something we will never forget. He was the youngest ever UK recruit to the University of Rio Grande Soccer ‘roster’ and left the UK for a new life only weeks after his 17th birthday.

Four years later, well before his 21st birthday, he is about to graduate with an excellent degree, and more importantly in his eyes having helped the Redstorm to 4 national finals tournaments where they have made the final, semi final and quarter final, but never quite made the final step to National Champions.

He does however have one more chance by being offered, almost without precedent, an extra years playing privileges that will hopefully see the Redstorm as National Champions in the 2012 season. Of course to do this he needs to be a student so he is staying on to do a Masters Degree, another thing we thought we might not see!

So, if we are a little tardy in responding to any enquiry over the next couple of weeks we apologise now, but with time differences and some celebrating going on it might be a little more than every hour that I check the e mails and the web site!

Therefore we have commissioned another short film that will hopefully give potential guests a flavour of what Tudor House has to offer.

We especially wanted to try and give as good an insight as possible into the work we have done on our new rooms, Swaledale & Wensleydale, and whilst we are very happy with the film we do believe that the only way to see them at their best is in person!

The final edit is not quite ready as we have not had the weather to show off the outside of the house to it’s best, but we wanted to give you this insight as soon as we possibly could so have ask Ian to put in a ‘first cut’ of the footage taken mainly inside the house and this can now be found on the front page of our web site, www.tudorbellbusk.co.uk or www.malhamdalehotels.co.uk , or you can take a look below.

Patricia works in a number of techniques including watercolour, ink, pastel and collage using silk as well as painting directly onto silk to be used as fashion accessories.

As everything is in constant change – of light or movement – I try to capture the individual moments, so that my work in the end is a series of these moments observed.

Christopher Somerville author of “Coast” the book to accompany the BBC series and the highly acclaimed “Britain and Ireland’s Best Wild Places” published by Penguin who owns one of Patricia’s works recently commented:

“You have exactly caught that low, muted light that the Pennines seem to attract, and the golden glow on the hill – it is really lovely, and has pride of place in my workroom.”

Through Carers Resource, these folk will be coming to Tudor House for a couple of days to enjoy the peace & quiet and re charge their batteries.

Sizzling chilli prawns is a returning favourite so didn’t cause too many problems in the kitchen but we are looking forward to the first serving of our Bean & Yorkshire Chorizo soup – maybe tomorrow night!

Grilled goats cheese and black pudding salad combines fabulous ingredients from two of our other local suppliers.

The Spicey Lamb burgers were a great success, but no more than the homemade fish pie or the slow roasted BBQ pork steak. No takers for the Cardomom Chicken yet, but we are sure it will become a favourite.

We started offering evening meals as the previous owners had done it, but as we develop it becomes more & more interesting and we look forward to getting more feedback on the menu we have put together for this year.

Once again Sheila’s eye for detail have made the makeover a real success and we cannot wait for more guests to enjoy both this and the new Wensleydale which will be fully dressed and ready to go by the end of the week.
